I went and had the free test first. Turns out I'm not on a pension, not on a Community Services Card, so there is no subsidy I qualify for. there is no public funding for someone my age, which I did not know until I was sitting there. Entry pair was around $1,690 and the ones they actually wanted to sell me were $5,300 for the pair, with a payment plan they were very keen to talk about. This is a bit personal but I'll put it in case it helps someone. Over about two years I stopped going out. Not a decision, I just kept finding reasons. Wore them to my grandson's wedding

Four months at the bowls club, nobody's said a word
The whole point for me was not having the big beige thing behind the ear. My brother's got those and you can pick them from across the green. These sit down in the ear and I've got short hair, I was expecting someone to say something. Four months and not a word. Sound's good, better in a quiet room than a noisy one obviously, but I can hear the caller now which I couldn't before. Charging's easy, they go in the case on the bench next to the kettle.

No batteries, that was the whole reason
I've got arthritis in both hands and the reason I never got hearing aids is those tiny batteries. Mum had them and I remember her on the floor looking for one that had rolled off. These have none, they go in a little case and the case plugs in like a phone. In at night, ready in the morning. Haven't touched a battery since March. Try the other tips before you give up
The size they come fitted with was too small for me and I got a bit of whistle when I put my glasses on. There are spare tips in the packet, three sizes, and swapping takes about ten seconds, you pull one off and push the other on. Went up a size and it's been silent since. Worth saying because I'd have sent them back thinking they were faulty.
